Types of Flat Roofing Materials
Different materials are used in the construction of flat roofs. Asphalt roofs are the most common, using layers of concrete and gravel to create a surface similar to that of a road. But, just like the roads, they become brittle at high heat and develop cracks, although new types of materials have been considerably improved and they are now much more efficient. They are made from polymer-based composite liquids that seals the cracks.
For a flat waterproofing membrane to be effective, it must be continuous. The quality of a waterproofing work is given by the quality and characteristics of the material used, as well as by the quality of the installation. Practiced roofing companies in Panama City FL use a range of products, tailored to each specific situation:
- hydro-insulation membranes with mineral protection
- waterproofing composite membranes
- self-adhesive waterproofing membranes
- anti-root membrane waterproofing
- glass fiber membrane waterproofing
- waterproofing membranes reinforced with polyester
Flat roof membranes, applied in adhesive layers, must have good mechanical characteristics as well as good resistance to thermal cycles. There are different types of membranes produced with different mixtures, so they can be installed both in summer and in winter. The summer mix is tougher to allow traffic even in relatively high temperatures; the winter mixture is softer and more flexible in order to facilitate the installation at low temperatures.
